Week 22: Hebrews 10

“The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming – not the realities themselves.” – Hebrews 10:1

Realities are different for different people.  The events of the last week have certainly opened my eyes to others’ realities.  It’s a reality I’ve always known is there but hasn’t been at the forefront of my mind.  How then do we work with others, to meet them where they’re at, and pursue a common dream of the good things that are coming?

Hebrews 10 talks about Christ’s sacrifice once for all.  For by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.  Verse 16 says “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord.  I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”

If only more people would open their hearts to Christ, imagine how much better our world would be with the Laws of God in our hearts and minds!  But how do we accomplish that?  It starts with me, and it starts with you.

Verse 24-25 says “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

TOGETHER.  That is how we help each other, by doing it TOGETHER.  Not by dividing ourselves into so many different segments.  Gender, Race, Political Affiliations are only a few segments we find ourselves in.  Not to mention, how many countless denominations and bodies of believers have their own ideas on how to worship and have a relationship with God.

A coworker of mine yesterday said it best, “If we’d all just practice the Golden Rule, that would be a great start.”  We cannot sit idly by.  We must work with each other toward love and doing good for other people that so desperately need to feel love.  The biggest thing is that we must act.

Acts 10:38 tells us what Jesus did when he received the Spirit and power.  He went around doing good.  What better example is there than to do what Jesus would do.
