Week 24 - JESUS, THE LIVING STONE - 1 Peter 2
“As you come to him the living Stone … you are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (vs. 4, 5)
Peter says that the living and enduring word of God that stands forever, has been revealed to us through Jesus Christ. Therefore, crave pure spiritual milk so that by it we may grow up in our salvation!
Peter says we have come to the living Stone, Jesus Christ, who was chosen by God and is precious to Him, and through him we are being built into a holy priesthood, a spiritual house, offering spiritual sacrifices to God! And this Stone, Jesus, is precious to us. We are a people belonging to God that we may declare the praises of him who called us out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Luke records that, as Jesus came riding into Jerusalem on a colt, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen. Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” Jesus replied, “I tell you, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” (Luke 19)
Therefore, Peter says we must live such good lives among the pagans that they may see our good deeds and glorify God; that we must submit to governing authorities and by doing good, silence the ignorant talk of foolish men; that we should live as free men; that we should live as servants of God; that we should endure unjust suffering and that we should live for righteousness, now that we have returned to the Shepherd of our souls, Jesus!
“Father, thank you for Jesus, the precious Living Stone! Fill me with your Spirit that I would be a living stone who cries out in praise to you!”
