What Would Jesus Do? Northside has been blessed to be able to assist those devastated by the hurricanes in the Gulf Coast area. Thank you notes are starting to come back in to us and I wanted to share a couple of them with you. Darlene from New Orleans writes: I want to say "THANK YOU" from the bottom of my heart! I met some wonderful people from the Northside Church of Christ after Katrina made her way into the city of New Orleans. It is hard to believe the generosity of others when you are used to being the giver not the recipient in a disaster. I met you when you were driving the streets of Algiers asking people what you could do to help. In my disbelief I answered that I was ok and had a pot of red beans cooked if you were hungry. I saw the operation that you had at Blaine Kerns and immediately asked how I could help. I met Teri, Jason and Jean Hooper. We could not have been more blessed. The residents of Algiers were numb and we had not seen destruction of that magnitude since Hurricane Betsy in the 1960's. I was such an honor to work alongside the members of the Northside Church of Christ. Your hugs and encouragement meant more to us that any help the city government could give. Rebecca and David write: We live in New Orleans and worked with Stan, not as hard as he did, when he came for the relief efforts through SBCC (South Baton Rouge Church of Christ). We cannot thank you enough for lending him to us. He was unstoppable. We were also thrilled by his sense of humor and non-judgmental demeanor. Unfortunately our experience with most Christian church people has been negative. Their tendency to try to convert and judge has been problematic for many of us. Stan truly lives the "What Would Jesus Do" trend that was so popular a couple of years ago. Our view has always been that Jesus would have remembered everything he said, not just the passages that supported a certain agenda. We are so grateful to have had OUR judgments altered by a remarkable man like Stan...We believe that what we saw here in New Orleans was Christianity in its truest sense. Here at Northside our motto is to "Be His Light." Our building sits on a hill and it is our goal to shed the light of Jesus to the community around us. We are thankful that others see it, not only inside our building, but when our members reach out to others. We hope that these words of encouragement and thanks to us will inspire you to "Be His Light" in your daily ministry to those you meet.
