Elections The election is over. Billions of dollars were spent by candidates throughout the nation toward the goal of attaining the particular office to which each aspired. Media coverage was the most comprehensive ever. Take your pick: CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, or the local newspaper-headlines for months have focused on the election. Wouldn't it be interesting to know the total man-hours spent on this one event? Counting the candidates themselves, paid staff, volunteer supporters nationwide, poll workers, media personnel, various consultants and "experts," plus all the support services such as printers, ad writers, clerical teams.......the list is mindboggling! It was a very important process. But, important as it was, the election of November is not the only election. There's another coming that is even more important. It's not a four-year term and not even a two-year term - it's eternity. 2 Peter 1:10 admonishes that we should each "be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure." So what election is it? The preceding verses say it this way: "... make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." Matthew 25 describes the election as a sorting process. All nations will be gathered before Jesus the Christ. (Can't you imagine the media coverage on that one!) He will put some on his right hand and some on his left. To the elected, the ones who have practiced the knowledge of the Lord described in 2 Peter, he offers an inheritance - the kingdom prepared since creation of the world. A kingdom described as being built by Jesus himself, with streets of gold, many houses, free of trouble, and lasting forever! 2 Peter also promises: "For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Now THAT'S an election I'm glad to vote in. submitted by a Northside family member
