Changes Do you remember a time when the family wanted to eat out and there were no questions like, "Where do you want to eat?" There were only two or three choices—the "greasy spoon" down the road, the diner across town or that new restaurant at the shopping center called "Shoney's." Do you remember when everyone went home on Sunday nights to watch "Bonanza"? There wasn't a lot of choices on the three channels you got over the antenna. Do you remember when there was only one grocery store in the community, maybe two at the most? Shopping was more simple in those days. If one word could be used to describe the last fifty years, it would be the word "CHANGE." From one room schoolhouses to comprehensive high schools, from horses and buggies to space shuttles, from wood stoves in the kitchen to microwaves in the offices, the present generation has witnessed more change than any generation before it. Life is definitely different. Better? That's a question yet to be answered. In the midst of all the change, many are calling for even more change. Where will it all end? I don't know. The uncertainties of the present cause all of us to be anxious and concerned. In the midst of this constant rush into the future, may I make several suggestions for keeping our feet on the ground. First, keep your faith in God. James reminds us, Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:17). Secondly, lean on His Word, which, though heaven and earth pass away, will never pass away (Matthew 24:35). Thirdly, devote yourself to spiritual growth. The way to endure in the times of the storm is to be grounded in Him who can tell the storm, "Peace, be still!" and the storm will obey. We cannot avoid the changes that are coming, but we can anchor ourselves on those eternal values that never change. Enjoy our CHANGED web site! Leslie S. Chapman
