ARE YOU LISTENING? In Psalm 19:1-2, the poetic shepherd, David, revealed his love for nature and its power to proclaim the majesty of God: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. A later psalm (96) depicts nature as singing to the Lord as it awaits His coming judgment. The heavens, seas, fields and trees join in jubilant praise of the Lord: Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy; they will sing before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. Ps. 96:11-13 The Old Testament song book concludes with psalms urging everyone to praise the Lord. In Psalm 148, God's creation joins with man in praising the Lord. Sea creatures join with the lightning, snow and hail to praise the Lord. The mountains and hills join in the chorus as the fruit trees and cedars sing their harmonies. In fact, with this grand chorus join the wild animals along with all the cattle, small creatures and birds in one awesome voice of praise. Perhaps you're thinking, "I've never heard any such chorus or choir!" Mayabe you haven't listened. As spring hints of its arrival, step outside and listen to nature's songs. From the noise of the crickets to the croaking of the frogs, from the rustling of the trees to the warmth of the spring sunshine, from the singing of the birds to the power of an incredible sunset, nature praises Him who created it all. Today, I heard His praises from the yellow bloom of a beautiful, little buttercup. Its voice was joined by the drumbeat of a spring shower. All around me, nature lifted its voice loud and clear. My only question is: ARE YOU LISTENING?
